In the Shinsaibashi area of Osaka, the city's high street district, BEAMS has a large 2-story shop that faces the area's main thoroughfare. Jamo designed the first floor (the women's floor) in order to make use of the sense of scale that derives from the building's original function as a bank. As Jamo has done in many other BEAMS stores, this shop does not use partitions to create divisions of space, but rather leaves large round structural columns untouched and uses these create a rough distinction between spaces. So as not to obstruct customers' view through the overall space, display fixtures are built up only to a certain height and private rooms are built out with glass walls. The end result gives customers the opportunity to see through the space and visually take in various design styles as well as creates an experience as though shopping in a large hall.
